I Went From Shoot and Burn To So Much More
How It All Began

I went from shoot and burn, to so much more. When I received my first camera for Christmas from my amazing hubby, little did I know that it would totally change my life. I bought the camera originally to take some photos of my own hair and makeup work. If you all didn’t know, before I became a photographer, I was a hair and makeup artist. I wanted to shoot my own work and build my portfolio. I loved the idea of not having to wait for photographers to give me the images. Most of the time I was waiting months to receive the images. I took matters into my own hands. My daughter was had started acting and modeling also, so I thought, why not take her head shots myself. Right! It all made sense to me.

How I went from shoot and burn to so much more

The Shoot

I started booking models for shoots, once a week. I also took a few workshops on light and how to use my camera. After about a month, I really started enjoying photography. I booked more and more shoots and after a year of shooting and learning, It turned into a business. I started out shooting glamour portrait, I also shot some weddings and to this day book a handful of weddings per year. I still enjoy weddings. My main business now is boudoir. It has been for the passed 2 years. When I decided to get focused on boudoir, I enrolled in some marketing, sales and all kinds of business courses, to get off the ground running. Through trial and error I leaned a system that had worked so well for me.

The Pricing

My First year in business as a boudoir photographer, I was still learning about pricing myself accordingly and really figuring out my niche and ideal client. Once I figured that out, I realized that I was worth more then I was pricing myself at. I repriced my packages and figured out what my expenses were and what I needed to bring in as an income for my family. In doing this, I was able to reach my target income for the following year. I hit my goal!

This is going to be key to your boudoir business. Have a good marketing plan in place, will set your year up for success. Do you have a marketing plan set up for the year? Once I was able to figure out my plan, I stuck to it and it worked like a charm.

The success of your photography business really comes down to repeatable systems. You have a system for shooting, what about an email system. Do you have an email marketing campaign in place? How about your social media schedule? If you have these things all planned ahead of time, it will make your life so much easier. Systems will no doubt make your business more efficient and open up time for you to work on the things you need to the most. If you are wondering if you can make 6 figures as a boudoir photographer, the answer is yes!!
